In the midst of a war-torn Europe, even legendary French Commander Napoleon Boneparte took note of how fundamental music is to the human experience, as he stated, “Music is what tells us that the human race is greater than we realize”. From the incessant beat of the spiral muscle we call a heart to the never-ending barrage of advertisements that define this modern age, music is the one constant that permeates the consciousness of all organic life, especially people. That said, it stands that in many ways, our planet’s musicians serve as grand and masterful culture wizards of the human spirit and psyche. As with all masters, there is a need for intense, single-minded focus when creating, making it paramount there be a highly skilled and dependable sentinel on duty to safeguard the integrity of all the relevant logistical tasks related to this indelible art, elevating humanity.

Far more relevant in the artistic scope, the business side of music seldom values the intangible forces that invariably influence and at times determine the potency and effectiveness of the final product, whether it be studio offerings or live performances. As an industry highly susceptible to capitalistic influences, it is vital to build and nurture relationships with seasoned and intentional professionals who, by experience, understand the special and very specific needs of today’s musical creatives. As an internationally connected project/tour manager and promoter, Australia-born, Hannah Poole, founder and CEO of Jewel Productions rises as one of this generation’s innovators that truly align with a spirit that is passionately committed to creating space for and supporting today’s musical genius’, on the verge of their own personal greatness. Hannah knows the world is ripe for a new golden-age bound to us in opposition to the globally thematic strife of current times and she intends to be the foundation for the next generation of musical torchbearers, partly because she understands their narrative.

Hannah’s story begins in Melbourne, Australia, where she was raised by a notably practical mother who activated her musical sensibilities by making a special point to enroll her in training to be a classical pianist. Fondly, she credits her father as the parental balance that informs her more fervent character defining sensibilities. Much more than a mere enthusiast, Hannah’s formative years had one constant center; music. Her matriculation as an elite pianist eventually earned an Advanced Diploma of Music Performance from Box Hill Tafe Institute and a B.A. of Fine Arts, focused on music performance at Victorian College of the Arts in 2014. Alongside her formal education during these times, Hannah’s growing love for music inspired her to immerse herself in Melbourne’s Jazz scene where she initiated relationships with many American performers who came every June to play at the annual Melbourne International Jazz Festival, a 10-day event featuring a roster of American musicians, many of which were based in New York City. Compelled to do everything in her power to establish a semblance of tribe in the United States, Hannah made it her duty to nurture these long-distance relationships with visits to the U.S. and faithful attendance at her favorite artists’ shows whenever she could save enough for the trips.

The completion of her formal education made Hannah eligible for sponsorship of a one-year work and travel visa to the United States. Spike Wilner, an American Jazz club owner, who had establishments located in the heart of Manhattan, sponsored her as a bartender, as the stipulations of the visa prohibited Hannah from actually working in her career-field. Clear that though she was a formidable musician herself, being true to her heart beckoned her to pursue the more uncommon path of being the forward-thrusting winds propelling an advanced nation of today’s most prolific & altruistic artists. This calling required Hannah to explore all the various rooms that make up the mansion that is the music business. Ravenous for experience, she quickly earned a spot as an in-house booking agent with New York’s McKenna Group Productions, founded by the reputable artist manager and former Sony Audio Vice President, Brian McKenna. While learning the relevant booking and artist management skills, Hannah had no idea her most character-building tutelage would derive from being unofficially sponsored by one of the most influential forces on this level of production; the now-deceased Meghan Stable. “My whole life changed when I met her. It meant so much that a woman I’d admired so much from afar and for so long, would take me on as a mentee,” remembers Hannah.

Notorious as the epicenter of every major industry, New York City has earned every bit of its reputation as the ultimate, competitive warzone where it is believed that only the most ambitious manage to survive. And the music industry is a blinding precedent to this belief that only single-minded relentlessness hustling will win. Hannah reflects, “There was good reason Meghan was at the top of her game, she was a true visionary. My time with her was probably the most valuable step in my professional development. Working with Meghan held up a mirror that would help me not only see myself (and my inner-demons) clearly but also the dark-side of this industry I love so much. It’s not enough to be hungry and willing to put in the hours. I learned that my relationship with myself is most important. Constructive boundaries and maintaining a working sense of gratitude for anyone, but especially the artists that have given me their trust is the true golden formula for success in this business.”

Now, as the CEO of a full-fledged and independent management entity, Hannah is in the actualization of her life’s calling and it reflects in the growing level of quality and amount of projects she’s being enlisted for. The experience of serving as artist liaison for many acts such as Kamasi Washington, Azusa and ButCher Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, Big Freedia, Raphael Saadiq and Digable Planets for June 2023’s Hollywood Bowl roster found Hannah flourishing. The integral role Hannah plays allows her to employ gifts that are natural aspects of a woman who understands both literally and figuratively what it means to have an enhanced vision for the world, acknowledging the power music has to redefine entire cultures. “The absolute highlight of my career thus far was working with my all-time favorite artist Leon Bridges at the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Fest. Supporting him amplified the intuitive and more practical sensibilities that already come naturally to me. I was on fire! It was the type of experience that felt like divine confirmation that I was truly fulfilling my purpose in life.”

No matter a person’s chosen ethos, everyone can agree we are experiencing a shift in Western culture, people are waking up. As we collectively rise to the truth that we are all connected and can accomplish so much more together than separately, we are each individually called to task. As stated, music is the soundtrack to what is currently amassing as a revolution fueled by vulnerability and sinew of the heart. Now it’s time to see what it looks like for the business side of music to operate in a manner that reflects that people come first. Enter, Hannah Poole!
